Black & White photography has experienced a resurgence in recent years. A lot of people appreciate the classic look and the drama that black & white can give an image. To meet this need, Arizona Photo & Video offers black & white photography in three ways.
One way, available for an additional fee of $150 on all the wedding packages, is to shoot using an additional camera loaded with black & white film. The photographer will then alternate between shooting color film and black & white. A choice naturally has to be made; should I shoot this image as color or B&W?
A black & white negative can only print as black & white or a two tone process such as sepia toned prints where they appear as brown and white.
The second method costs no additional fee other than the regular cost of the additional prints. Color negatives have a certain advantage. They can be printed on color paper or black& white paper. When printed on black & white paper, they come out as black & white prints. This gives the advantage of having the best of both worlds. This is what we generally recommend to our clients.
Is there a trade-off to making black & white prints from a color negative? Yes, color negatives have slightly less contrast, but this can be compensated for in the printing process.
The third method is to shoot the images using a digital camera. It is a very simple process to make black & white images from digital files. In this way there is no lack of contrast to worry about.
